The holidays, no matter which one it is, always seem busy. I want to get festive but I don’t have time to do everything. So having fast, easy, fun treats like this one to fall back on are great…and real kid-pleasers. 馃檪
I think I saw something similar to this with licorice. I love the salty sweet factor so I used pretzels instead.
This project/treat uses things you probably already have on hand and takes about 15 minutes of prep time.
Here is the how to {quick note: as always I use my pocket camera for the steps…but the quality was even poorer this time because it was dark, cloudy, and rainy while I was making these…my apologies…anyway…}:
1. Melt your chocolate. I use a small pan full of water and a metal bowl to rest on top of it. I only fill the pan halfway so that the bowl doesn’t touch the water.
Turn it on med-high heat.
Add your chocolate. I used about 3/4-1 cup for four spiderwebs.
Stir occasionally until completely melted. Remove from heat for a few minutes while you prep your pretzels.
2. While it is cooling…Lay down some wax paper. Add about 10-12 stick pretzels in a circular fashion for each spider web you want to make.
3. Fill a ziploc or other plastic bag with the chocolate. I used an old yogurt container to set the open bag into so it was easy to dump the chocolate in.
4. Snip a small opening at the bottom top of the bag and squeeze the chocolate in a circular fashion over your pretzels.
5. Let it cool at room temperature for a few hours…OR you can slide them onto a cookie sheet and pop them in the fridge for about 30 minutes or less. You will know they are ready when the chocolate no longer looks glossy, but has turned completely matte looking.
6. Peel from the wax paper and lay it onto top of your bowl full of ice cream.
You can break the web and stick it in all pretty if you want. I kept them intact and added some plastic spiders. I could only find our orange one as far as our Halloween critters go, so I raided my 2 year old’s stash of plastic bugs to get some more for the rest of the webs. I fear I may have had a rash purging afternoon and thrown my other spiders away. I don’t exactly remember…do you ever do that? Ah!
My boys loved the spider webs! My mouth is watering, just remembering the salty and sweet combination. YUM.
We ate this for a Sunday night treat …
…but it would be a good one for tonight for Family Home Evening…AND you can easily whip it up while you are making dinner!
Sweet…literally!

I think my son can do this.. We’ll do this bono..

Can you melt Reese’s peanut butter cups for this?
Delia says
Good question. You probably could. I’m not sure how well the peanut butter would harden with the chocolate, but you could always try!
