Hey good lookin’;)
Today we’re making cremosas, otherwise known as Italian sodas. Perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day. It’s like a dessert and a beverage in one.
In high school, I worked around the corner from this cute little coffee shop where I would occasionally stop in for an Italian soda, which are also called cremosas. I loved them and have since recreated versions of them several times with store bought sugary syrups.
This time I decided to make it with a fresh, from scratch strawberry syrup. um…YUM!
Let’s make some shall we?
To make the syrup, dice one pound of strawberries.
Add a layer of sugar to the top. I never measure but I would guess almost a cup.
Stir, cover, and let it sit in the fridge for about a day.
After which you have a sugary, syrupy, chunky strawberry syrup mixture. Unless you have a wide straw that can suck up the chunks of fruit in your cup, you might want to blend it up a little bit.
Now make your Italian soda or cremosa.
Add:
A few tablespoons of sauce/syrup.
A couple tablespoons of milk (any kind).
Some ice (optional).
Add clear, carbonated soda. Club soda is more traditional and is how I like it. My kids prefer 7UP.
Top it off with some whipped cream. I used the stuff from a can because it reminds me of the corner coffee shop.
Add a cute straw.
Yum.
I didn’t mix it as well as I should have. Just give it a good whip and you’ll have a more homogenous mixture.
Like this one…
Beat the heat and cool down with a fun twist on just plain ole soda.
Happy summer!

I used to work in a little cafe and we made Italian Sodas, but it was just club soda and syrup. If we added a little half and half, they were then called French Sodas. And my mother grew up in NYC and she loved egg creams, which, despite the name, is basically carbonated chocolate milk. Sounds disgusting but it is Delicious! Thanks for taking me back down Memory Lane!

Life – It's just soda pop: sprite will do, or club soda.
