So…I promised a project today, but it’s more like an announcement.
I am starting a weekly on-going series that will run through Fall and Winter months. I’m calling it…
Hip Hooks…because I’m out to prove that crochet has a hip side.
Now…I know crochet has a bit of a bad rap. Justifiably so. For a long time, it’s been the knitters who have reigned supreme in the stylish fiber craft arena. But new, amazing crochet designers are beginning to pop up that will make you want to pick up a hook and give crochet a try. Check out these lovelies I pinned to my crochet pin board:
Sources: 1. Best of Crochet Floor Cushion – Lacasadecoto 2. Crochet Peter Pan Collar – Emma Escott 3. T-Strap Ballet Flats – Holland Design  4. Simple Statement Wreath – Good Knits 5. Cowl Scarf – Parent Pretty
And check out some of my own projects, reviews, and patterns:
ribbed beanie free pattern, basket weave blanket free pattern, crocheted bow tie tutorial, gnome hat review, boy’s loafer pattern review, mesh bonnet free pattern + tutorial
Projects like these, are what I am shooting for with this series. They will be current, pretty, and…well hip! I am a sewer first, crocheter second, so some of my projects will incorporate a little bit of sewing here and there as well.
I’m not going to keep a strict schedule, but I plan to share at least one crochet project, review, guest, etc. each week from now until Spring. There is nothing like a little needle…er hook craft 😉 to get you through the Winter. I love curling up on the couch at night with a crochet project as I watch the snow pile up out my window. It’s the best.
Are you new to crochet? Even better!
My projects are going to be geared toward beginners. In fact, my first few projects will just be using chains! Chains are the most basic stitch and are the easiest to master. Each project after that will slowly build in more and more new stitches until you are ready to conquer or at least try almost any crochet project.
I highly encourage you to read up on The Aesthetic Nest’s Head Over Heels in Crochet series. You can check out an interview I did for the series HERE. Anneliese adeptly and clearly teaches all the basic stitches and then some. She also has some great patterns for free and for purchase that are worth checking out.
I’m sharing my first project tomorrow. This slip knot tutorial will help you begin and this chain tutorial will teach you the rest of what you need to know to follow along.
See you then!

I am so excited for this series! I pretty much enjoy everything you do though. My mom used your basket weave blanket pattern for my new baby boy when he was born a little over a year ago. Thanks for everything you put into your blog for our enjoyment!

oh yay!!! I"m so excited for this– I love bloggers who sew, crochet and knit, because, well, that's what I do! Now that it's cooler, I love to cuddle up on the couch and 'yarn' instead of sew. Let me know if you need any help!!!

Viva la crochet! I was just thinking I need to pull out my hook for a quick toque for Nicole. Hookers forever!

Awesome idea. I just bought my first hook a couple of weeks ago and I have big dreams for it. Everything you make is gorgeous, so I can't wait to see this series unfold. Yay!

Yay! So excited! I am in between beginner and intermediate so I will love anything you post! I learned via a video series on the crafty minx blog called crochet school. The videos really helped seal it for me. Looking forward to curling up on my couch with my hook 😉

I crocheted first and only picked up knitting 10 years ago. I still do both fairly frequently.

This is wonderful! Why should the knitters have all the fun?! There are some lovely projects out there for crocheters, I can't wait to see what's coming up!

Thanks! SO excited. If possible, can you throw in a crochet version of those earwarmers you did a while back? Thanks! Love it!

Thank you for making it for beginners! 🙂

This is great! I'm so excited! Is there any chance you could show how to line a crochet hat with fabric to make it warmer for the cold winter months?

This looks like fun! =) I'm not quick at crocheting, and I've only made a few small things, but it is fun. =)

Hi Delia, I've been following your blog for a while. I love your sewing tutorial and photography. I'm very excited about this series, b/c for a LONG time I've known how to crochet, basic chain stitch, single and double stitches, but have never been able to follow a pattern (b/c it's beyond confusing with all the abbreviations and such) so all I've done are basic hats, scarfs
