Today, I’m excited to share what I made for Katy’s Sew All 26 Series.
It’s a series about sewing through all 26 letters of the alphabet, of course, and my letter is T!
With Natalie turning two in a few weeks, I thought it perfectly fitting to sew this post up for her. So, T is for Two!
(p.s. It’s raining outside that window :))
I made her a twirly tunic, which I made using the 5 & 10 designs basic block pattern and free sleeve download found HERE,
with a twill tape tag and tiny heart, which I punched out with my free motion foot and some hot pink thread…
which matches the hot pink thread I used to sew on the buttons…
which brings me to the leather triangle elbow patches on her three-quarter sleeves…
which complement her tribal print leggings (the pattern is from Go To Patterns found HERE, I cut a size 12 month waist and extended the length 4-5 inches to get it to fit Natalie’s slender build),
which match her tan toe capped T-strap shoes (made from my Natty Janes shoe pattern found HERE).
And I’m not done! I also made her dolls…TWINS of course… and a baby tote in which to carry them.
Is the tip of your tongue worn out yet?…good 😉
The dolls are fraternal twins of course, and made from the free Black Apple Doll Pattern from Martha Stewart found HERE. The tote was made using Dana’s Baby Basket Pattern found HERE.
I sewed up the size small basket, which is easier for my petite Natalie to tote around.
I used the thickest, crispest fusible craft interfacing I could find. I also saved a few bucks on the high loft batting by finding it by the yard, using a coupon, and only buying the 1/2 yard I needed. It came to just over a couple bucks!
I interchanged the cloth straps for leather ones, sewed them into a partial tube and attached them like so…
I tried to put Natalie’s hair into a top knot (another T!) like the red headed doll, but it just kept popping out into a geyser. 😀
Okay, let’s count all the T’s shall we:
tunic, twirl, twill tape tags, tiny heart, three-quarter sleeves, triangle elbow patches, tribal leggings, tan toe cap t-strap shoes, twin dolls, one with a top knot, and a baby tote all for this sweet girl who is turning TWO!
And that’s a wrap! 🙂 If you haven’t been following along already, go check out what Katy from No Big Dill and her lovely guests have been sewing up for Sew All 26!
Ta ta then! (couldn’t resist!)
P.S. Small leather details can be washed and dried in the washer and dryer. It will soften and wear over time, and possibly change color a bit, but should hold up well otherwise…in my personal experience. 🙂
Oh, what a fun post. I’m in love with the whole outfit. Especially the tribal knit leggings are fun. And those dolls are the cutest little things ever 😉
Thank you Annika! 🙂
Hallo! Kann man das Helbe Kleid kaufen????
Hi Barbara. The dress was made using a pattern. It’s not for sale. So sorry!
Oh my how this post is Tops!! I love every single T-item, you are so awesome at what you do and your daughter is adorable! Happy Birthday Natalie, have fun being TWO 🙂
You are so sweet. Thank you for your kind Thoughtfulness. 😉
OMG!! Totally Terrific!! All of it! Love those triangles! And, goodness… how the heck can she already be nearly two! Beautiful 🙂
I know. Crazy right? Thanks Jane!
I love everything in this post! Did you paint the faces on the dolls like it says to in the tutorial, or did you use something else?
Thank you Adela! Yes, I painted the faces. I added some chalk to the cheeks as well and then pressed it with a hot iron when I was done. I am sure I’ll have to add more chalk as we go… 🙂
I’ve had this same exact problem before but…how do you enlarge the pattern to print it off? Because even when I zoom it to 150%, it prints out at 100%.
I took it to Staples and had them print it for me on larger paper at a larger scale. I also added a little bit extra width to the legs and arms so they wouldn’t be SO tiny. Good question! I forgot to mention this.
Thank you! This is the best Sew All 26 post I have seen yet. You have made many lovely things. Great photos too, wow!
Aw. Thank you Sherri!
This is amazing! My favorite version of dana’s basket yet! Love the leather combo with the black and white stripes. Just made a clutch that combo last night 😉 and those dolls…adorable!!! Great Job Delia!
Thank you Cortney. Seriously…isn’t b+w+brown leather the best!?
GAH GAH GAH!!! I AM SO SO SO IN LOVE WITH THIS DELIA. Everything about this is just so fantastic!! I love this, and I love you, and I love your baby, and I love those triangle elbow patches, and I love your doll carrier!! hahaha – everything is just lovely :).

Aw. Thanks Jen! 🙂
Wowzers! I can’t believe she’s almost two…but my son will be in a couple months, and she is just a tad older! I love your projects. These turned out great! I love the tunic with the triangles and tag! So cute!
I know! Time is flying. Thank you for the sweet comment Lynette!
Delia these are all so insanely cute! And pretty sure I want a bag like her tote now! The dolls are out of control cute!! Such a great job!
I know! Me too! Maybe soon, if I can get my act together… 🙂 Thank you for your always super sweet comments Kelly!
Simply adorable … speechless 🙂
Thank you Sasha!
I love this outfit for your daughter, it is modern and feminine at the same time. You have a lovely attention to details! I’ve been eyeing the doll basket pattern for my 2 y.o. girl and I think you just won me over. 🙂
It takes time, but it really is such a fun pattern. Thank you for your thoughtful, kind comment. 🙂
Wow! I’m totally taken by all the t’s! I love everything you made!
Thank you Elisa! 🙂
I just adore this so much Delia. What a beautiful little girl you’ve got there. And all the things you made, I am so jealous. Want them all!

~Michelle
You are so sweet Michelle. Thank you!
Just Amazing!! I love everything about it! You are a sewing “machine” ;).
ha. thanks Leigh Anne!
Stop it right now. Leather straps on the baby doll carrier?! Seriously?! Please tell me how you come up with such darling brilliance!! Is there a trick to being a creative genius? 😉
you are so nice to me. thank you Emily!
Delia, you are terrific! Towers of ‘t’s…. totally talented. =) Love the doll bed and the leather patches… and the tiny twill tape heart tag. And that spout on Natalie’s head is adorable.
thanks Charity!
I want to make everything in this post! Amazing. My girl turns two soon too. 🙂
Thank you Christine! Happy birthday to your little one.
Delia, this is so Topnotch! Just adorable. Nat is the cutest ever. I just want to hug her–and you!
aw thanks! you just might get to soon. 😉
You forgot to count thread and the tube for the handles!! And another “t” that I’m sure you had is “tired” by the time you were done. ;o)
That doll tote is amazing. I’ve seen the other ‘letter’ posts and I like yours the best by far.
haha…good ones. And yes. I WAS SO tired, but happy. 🙂
That is so cute! And Too many T’s! Also that’s the cutest hairstyle ever – my mum used to do that for me when I was a toddler (another T?).
I’ve a few more T’s for you. Terrific! Totally Awesome! Technically Brilliant!
ooh. yes. I should have totally used Toddler! Good one.
They’re The Top!
thank you!
It seems there is nothing left to say, that hasn’t been previously mentioned – but WOW….I’m in love!! The thought {and love} put into this post is evident. Those dolls are too cute {thanks for the link}, and the basket is flat-out awesome….loving the leather and stripes combination!!
thank you so much! such a compliment coming from you. 🙂
Well, all the T’s are Taken so I have A’s for you: Absolutely Adorable! Your little girl looks wonderful in the triangle tunic and tribal T outfit and the twins are terrific, too! Your post was a lot of fun to read, as well!
thank you Karen!
Oh Delia, everything is soooo adorable and Natalie is such a cutie (looks like my Louise who is turning two next week :)) !
You, definitely are my favorite blogger. Ever.
Sophie*
(Sorry for my poor english, I’m from France !)
oh my goodness. you are the sweetest ever! thank you Sophie!
I really love your stuff! I wandered here looking for soft soled shoe ideas for my daughter and now all I can think about are adorable dresses. I’m totally new to the sewing world (haven’t even purchased a sewing machine yet!) but am excited to get started.
Like I said, I was looking for shoe ideas and yours are without a doubt some of the sweetest I’ve seen. I have the same problem some others have, my daughter is older so the patterns won’t work (I’m pretty sure I’m not at a level where I could do much adapting – maybe soon because I think I would kind of like some). You might already be aware of this but there is a growing number of people interested in soft soled shoes for kids of all ages because it is so much better for their development (these are the same people who buy the crazy minimalist shoes – I love the idea but the styles are not so great). There are very few places that make shoes like this for kids (the one site I’ve found charges about $60+ which is a tough pill to swallow when your foot size changes a couple times a year). Anyway, it might be worth expanding your sizes and marketing to that crowd (a lot of them are into DIY – Paleo, Ancestral Health, Waldorf education families, etc.) which I guess is my crowd. Anyway, just an idea!
I didn’t consider that. I just might. Thank you Jen!
Love this look! The colors and patterns are perfect together:) I have been thinking about making some leather elbow patches and was wondering how they wash. Now I know! Thanks!!!:)
Thank you Kelsey! As for washing leather that has been sewn onto clothing… If it’s a suede it will darken a lot, but the thicker leathers do a little better. 🙂
Wow!!! Love everything!!! You are very talented.
You are so kind. Thank you Lizzy!
Oh. My. Wowzers. I don’t even know what my favorite part is. I do know that as soon as I post this comment I’m off to find that doll pattern. I’m crazy in love with the dress, and am a little gobsmacked by the doll carrier. Those straps?! Do you remember where you got the fabric for the leggings? I think I need it. 🙂
Thank you! I do! It’s Ponte De Roma from Girl Charlee. 🙂
I also love that you use gobsmacked. You’re awesome. 😀
I love all of these. Also, leather handles for that baby carrier were perfect! When I saw Dana’s pattern, I immediately thought leather handles and you made that happen! 😉
Great minds! 🙂 Thanks Bonnie.
THIS IS JUST SO AWESOME DELIA!! Seriously, every single detail is just sooooo sweet and stylish and perfect – I love it all! You really nailed it!
You are so kind! Thank you Cherie!
Too precious! All of it is just fantastic. The baby doll tote blew me away, and I’m so glad you shared the dolls and the free(!) link to them. I have three girls and would l love to go crazy with sewing one for each. I’ve been wanting Dana’s tote for a while, and your style just blows it out of the water.
Thank you Ruth! I hope your three littles love those dolls. The little girl in me had a little too much fun sewing them up. 😉
Amazing!! Seriously, so good. And so much!!! I love it all.
You are so kind. Thank you Sabra!
WoW~ wow…WOW! You are so talented…I’ve watched your creativity explode year after year, Delia. This is fabulous! Everything you post is just amazing. I love this! Thank you for sharing 😉
Thank you so much Julie. I am touched!
This post is full of so many amazingly adorable things! So in love with all the T items you made!
Thank you!!
Happy Birthday Sweet Natalie! What an adorable little outfit. I’m smitten for all things that shade of yellow. The doll tote….a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e.!!!!!! Amazingly talented you are!!! Thanks for always sharing!!!
I know. Me too. I have to remind myself to use other colors! ha.
Thank you so much for you sweet comment Amalia!
Her cuteness kills me! What a cutie pie. Happy Birthday to her!
Thank you Brandy!
such a cute little scene! The yellow, and black and white stripes/tribal is great. All of it is Terriffic
Thanks Tara. 🙂
Wow! I just found your blog via Pinterest and this is so adorable I can’t! You are super talented and your daughter is gorgeous. Alas, I don’t sew….ugh! How do I get this outfit already made? Thanks…too, too cute!
Thank you for your sweet compliments Angela! 🙂 I don’t sell the finished dresses but I do sell a dress pattern book. I used the pattern pieces from that book to create this tunic. Your best bet would be to get a friend who sews to help you out? Here’s the link to the e-book: http://fiveandtendesigns.com/
I’m in awe of everything. I’m just starting out with my sewing journey and most things I make seem to look so rubbish and by the time I’ve turned it right way round and pushed out corners, I usually find a hole where the fabric didn’t quite meet on both sides……
I also have a two year old, boy. Where do you find the time and energy to do all this?!!
Super work. So lovely and stylish. Love love love x
A lot of late nights! Really. 🙂 Thank you for your kind compliments Hannah. I know how you feel. Sewing can feel so frustrating at first. Especially with apparel sewing, it seems like the learning curve is rough for a while, but also totally worth it. You can do it! 🙂 Hang in there.
The tunic and the pants are amazing! sorry it s my first time in your blog…do have an etsy store or something?I would love to have a set like that for my girls!
http://mygenerouslife.blogspot.it/
Thank you Georgia! I don’t have an etsy store but I sell the dress pattern (I used the pattern pieces to create this look, even though it’s not one of the specific looks included in the e-book). Here is the link: http://fiveandtendesigns.com/
Hi there. I just found your site on pinterest and oh my you are talented! Your items are adorable (including that sweet two year old!) I am in love with your baby tote and I am wondering if you make and sell these for those of us who are sewing flunkies. Please let me know. Thanks so much.
-Michelle
I am in love with this whole ensemble !! 🙂 I would love to make the dolls and carrier for my soon to be two toddler but have never sewn a day in my life 🙁 Too much to tackle for a very beginner ? Do you sell these ? 🙂 thanks !
PS : I admire your talent !
I just love everything about this post. The style, the colors, the dolls, the tote, the little details. Just perfect!
Thank you Christina!
So, you made the dress, the leggings, the shoes, the dolls, the bag AND the child? I’m blown away. You’re seriously talented and obviously brilliant at time management.
I have boy girl twins and my daughter Ogden would love that doll bag!! can I pay you to make one!?!?!?
I am so sorry. I do not do custom orders. I bet you can find someone to sew up Dana’s pattern for you though!
Do u make them to sell?? My daughter is turning 2 and she would love the basket and dolls!!
I love absolutely everything in this post!! The doll carrier is the best that I’ve seen from that pattern, it’s just amazing! I actually found your post through pinterest while looking for doll patterns to make one for my niece’s first birthday this coming weekend. I love the size of your dolls (and the style!)- do you mind if I ask what % you enlarged the pattern? The pattern says to enlarge 150% but I suspect that you made them larger than that. Thanks in advance!:)
Thank you so much Amy! I did enlarge the pattern just 150%. My daughter is just tiny. 🙂 The pieces also seemed smaller than they should be…at least I thought so. I used a 1/4 inch seam allowance AND I added that much to the pattern pieces. I don’t think that was recommended but I am sure it made the doll a bit bigger all around. I hope that helps!
That helps a ton- thanks!! I’m going to try to replicate those cute pigtails too;)
Oh, one last question, did you paint their eyes and mouth on? If so, have you washed the dolls yet? How did they turn out? Thx!:)
Good question. I used fabric paint so that the paint won’t wash out. You can buy textile medium and add that to any acrylic craft paint to make it fabric paint. That way you don’t break the bank on paints. So, this is not exactly what you are asking but I have to warn you… I have washed one doll in the washing machine. The fabric I used for her body was a fragile linen and I didn’t realize just how fragile until I washed it. I had to hand sew some spots that frayed and opened. The rest of the doll held up fine, so I assume it was just that fabric that was the problem. But…The felt also doesn’t agree with machine washing that well either. I recommend spot cleaning or hand washing as needed. If you do wash it in the machine, the felt will just look a little more worn and fuzzy. Hope that helps!
Love, love this dress! Is it for sale on your site? Thank you!
Thank you Brittany! It is…sort of. I used our 5&10 Designs Dress e-book pattern which you can purchase here: http://fiveandtendesigns.com/….four other designers and I collaborated to create the book. It’s $25 but you get 10 dresses/tops from the book plus more bonus pattern re-mix tutorial on our sites (I have shared a few at least). There is also a free sleeve pattern you can download, which is what I used for this tunic. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions.
I just finished making this doll and I’m in love! I have to know how you did the shoes.. They’re such a great detail.
Fun! Thanks! I just cut out some felt shoes and top stitched them on before sewing the legs together. 🙂
Gah! I just found your beautiful site and beautiful daughter via a post on Pinterest! Now if only I could properly sew and keep a machine from breaking! I want all of this for my daughter. You have impeccable style!
xx Viv at JoieDeViv
thank you Vivian!
I just have to say that I love everything in this post! The clothing, the dolls and the carry cot! If I had the skills I would make my baby girl the entire set 🙂
hi there, I’d love to have a go at making this for my little girl but I don’t quite understand how to get hold of the pattern. When clicking on the link it takes me to 5 & 10 but there on volume two (jackets) is that the right pattern/volume to go with to go with.
thank you very much
bex
Oh sorry about that! I wrote this post when we hadn’t yet released our jacket pattern. The dress book is volume one. So if you go here: http://fiveandtendesigns.com/shop and then scroll down toward the bottom, the Volume One Dress e-book is the one you want. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.
I am looking to purchase a new sewing machine. What type did you use to create this beautiful top?
Thanks Shannon. I used my basic Brother sewing machine. I am looking to upgrade soon because I sew so often, but if you are just starting out, the entry level Brothers ($150-200) work pretty well.
Oh my gosh Delia….I don’t know how I’m just now seeing this post! I swear I missed it…and it was over a year ago! I’m so happy I stumbled on it though, through Pinterest. Haha. I really love what you did with the Doll Basket. What a genius idea to add the leather handle. LOVE. And wow, everything else in this post….such a gorgeous ensemble. And that location is fantastic too. Where is that? A library?
You always find cool places for photos.
can you make me this whole outfit/ doll and carry set!! ??
haha… Thank you! I don’t do custom orders though. Sorry about that. Do you know someone who sews?
Oh my everything is so lovely. Want to make that twirly tunic for my daughter…its so crazy adorable. Maybe it\s just me but cant seem to figure out which pattern you have used. Did you buy the Volume One / Dresses from 5 and ten and made look no. 1 or 5? and then added sleeves?
Hope you can help me, I so want to make this dress for my little daughter
Thanks for a lovely post
Louis
Thank you Louis! I used Five and Ten Designs Volume One. I used the basic bodice (look one), added 3/4 sleeve, and shortened the skirt to make it tunic length. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂
truly terrific! obsessed and want to recreate. will try and let you know if I have questions. you’re inspirational across the board, love your work!!
Thank you so much!! <3
Found you through Pinterest. All of your creations are to die for! I’m wondering about the sleeve on this dress though? Is it included when you purchase the pattern? The link for the free sleeve download takes me directly to the 5 and 10 design page but I don’t see anything about a sleeve pattern. Just wanted to make sure as I’d like to purchase the number one pattern but would like the option of doing sleeves! Thanks!
Thank you Amy! You are so kind!
The sleeve is an add on pattern for the first book only. I think it gets emailed with Volume One when you buy it, but if it doesn’t, just email me: [email protected] and I’ll send it over as soon as I can.
I hope that helps!
Delia <3
Delia,
I see this post is from two years ago everything looks so great I love her outfit and would love to try and get the dress/top for my baby girl I tried to go into the sight to get the print out but I can’t anymore plus I kinda sick at sowing is there a chance you can sell what you make ???
Hi Talia. Sorry you had trouble with the patterns. In case the links are broken, you can purchase the dress pattern here: http://fiveandtendesigns.com/
and the doll carrier pattern here: http://www.madeeveryday.com/2013/11/the-baby-doll-basket-pattern-is-here.html
I wish I had time to sew things to sell, but I just don’t have the time in this stage of my life. Sorry! I hope the links are helpful!
Hi! My daughter is turning two and I am terrible at sewing!! I wanted to do this photoshoot for her! Any chance you do this for a living? Thanks!
Hi! Happy birthday to your daughter. I don’t sew finished items for sale. I’m so sorry about that! I’m sure you could hire it out to a seamstress. The patterns are for sale, so anyone can use the patterns and replicate the look. Best of luck!
Hi delia,
I know this is an Old post. But are you Also willing to make and sell such a doll tote? Love it, but can’t find in anywhere.
Hope so!
Regards Joyce
Hi Joyce! I wish I could, but I am not selling finish goods at this time. My business is just not registered to do that right now and I don’t have as much time as I would like to fill orders. I bet there are seamstresses on etsy that sell Dana’s doll carriers though. You could have them replicate it? Sorry I can’t be of more help!
so cute! how did you do the doll faces? with paint?
Thanks! Yes!…It’s craft paint mixed with a textile medium so that it is washable and flexible enough for fabric. I hope that helps!
Hi, I see this is a pretty old post, but hoping you can still help me out! Adorable doll carrier!! So I clicked on the leather website you sourced and I’m lost!! What kind of leather did you use for the straps, what width, and how long? Any chance you could help me out finding the right leather on their website??? Thanks SO much!!
Hi Janae,
So I just used a portion of a larger hide of leather. You can reuse an old thrifted jacket, or find scraps at Michaels, or a leather store. You can use almost any kind. You want it to be thick and sturdy (so not suede), but not so thick that you can’t sew through it when it’s folded (not vegetable tan leather). I cut about a 2 inch strip to the length of the original strap in the pattern. I sewed it in half length-wise with a half inch seam allowance and then trimmed down that seam allowance afterward. Leave about 1.5 inches at each end unsewn and cut them into a rounded shape. Sew onto the carrier as normal. One thing I didn’t do but would do in the future, is to also sew an x through that rounded part to add more strength. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.
Hi! I just stumbled across this post. The dress is adorable! You are so talented! When I clicked on the link, it took me to a page under construction and after a bit more digging, I see that five and ten designs no longer exists 🙁 would you be able to point me in the direction of a similar sewing pattern?
So sorry about that Christine. Some of the designers from that pattern group are working on rereleasing the patterns as individual patterns. I would check out Craftiness Is Not Optional or Elegance and Elephants. They have similar patterns. I hope that helps!
