I’ve been on a knit sewing kick lately.
A little collection of cute knit top and dress patterns have been building up in my sewing queue, so I decided to finally do something about it this last weekend. I’m excited to share what I’ve made with you, over the next few weeks!
Today’s pattern is The Anywhere Dress by Andrea Pannell (Go To Patterns).
It was a fun sew. Pretty quick. I like that the neckline has no top-stitching and that there are four different sleeve options. I chose the elbow sleeve, because it’s one of my favorite sleeve lengths. Although it does look more like a 3/4 sleeve because I went a size up for sleeve and hem length.
Natalie seems to like it too! She was acting like a cute little ham all through pictures. 🙂
And the pattern is aptly named. This dress can, and probably will, go anywhere!
Oh and did I mention that the size range is from 12 months to 12 years?! I see a lot more of these cute little dresses in our future.
This time, I made two versions:
A white baby rib knit version with cute little animals all over it. This version was the nicest to sew with and it seems like the most comfy to wear. My daughter is tall and thin, so I sewed the size 12 month with 18 month length and it’s about perfect. It fits well enough now with room to grow.
The fabric is from Girl Charlee. You can get to the direct listing by clicking HERE.
The second version is a soft, granny floral that is not available at Girl Charlee anymore – so sorry! It was a popular print. You may recognize it. 🙂
This fabric is super soft and nice to the touch but honestly, it has too much drape for a dress. Well…at least a baby dress that has no defined waist. It “grew” in length the longer she wore it, so I had to go in and trim it up, which also caused it to lose it’s original shape in the sides.
It still looks mostly fine, but at certain angles it looks like she is wearing a nightgown. I have added cardigan making to my Fall sewing list. I think a cardi will break up the silhouette and make this dress still work nicely.
I highly recommend using a baby rib knit, a medium weight knit (with less drape) or an interlock knit with this pattern. It will hold up better during wear and sewing, and look nicer overall. Andrea talks about this in her pattern, so this should have been no surprise to me. Sometimes though, I take a risk with a less ideal fabric because I am in love with the print it comes in. It just happened to not pay off this time. 🙂
I did however do that with another pattern (for me!) and it worked (wheee!). I’m hoping I can get some pictures done soon so I can show you.
P.S. Painted shoes found HERE. Chiffon bow (top picture) found HERE. Leggings (top pic) pattern found HERE.
P.P.S. This pattern was gifted to me by Go To Patterns, but my choice to do a review was up to me and my opinions are 100% my own.

It's a great pattern. I need to make some for Ivy. I made some for a friend's daughter, but never got pictures. Natalie is so adorable, and I love the print combinations you came up with. So fun.

Those are really cute! I love the animal print one, and Natalie hamming it up. =)
How did you keep the facing from flipping out to the right side? Mine always do, even with under-stitching and tacking it down at the shoulder seams.

So so cute! Especially with the painted shoes and stripey leggings 🙂 You've convinced me to add it to my queue for O as well. Gotta try it!

How much does your daughter weigh/how old is she in these pics? My daughter is also long and lean so I’m wondering if I also should go with the 12 month pattern. She weighs 22 lbs and is 19 months old. Thanks!!

It’s been a few years but it sounds like she was a similar size to your daughter. Maybe 20-21 pounds? She was only about 18 pounds at a year so that sounds about right. I hope that helps! Let me know how it goes.
