That is what I think when I see this shirt. 🙂
It’s not flowers, it’s not ruffles, it’s just floofy. Not fluffy per say…more floofy. 🙂
I was inspired by this shirt by Sisters 4 Say More is More.Â
I had a DownEast flag shirt that I got at a bag sale {where you stuff as much as you can in a bag for $10} for probably about 25 cents…technically.
I wasn’t a fan of the flag on the front, or the 2005 beneath it. So…I cut probably about 50 or so freehanded circles out of another white t-shirt. They are all different sizes and not perfect but I tried to keep them pretty circular.
Then I pinned them on two at a time like so…
I then machine sewed them all on in a random fashion using white thread and a zig zag stitch. I would stitch just an inch of zig zag at a time.
I also cut the neckline and the sleeve hems off. Then I rolled the raw edges out to the front or right side and sewed a straight stitch around the sleeves and neckline. They were a little too “t-shirt” and not enough “blouse.” Cutting them off and sewing raw side out seams really helped the shirt look better for some reason. Messy on purpose kind of look.
For the trickier pieces that kept flopping over I hand-sewed them. I won’t lie. This took a while.
But…it was worth it. Within just a few hours of wearing it I had people come up to me and ask me where I got it. I was at DI {thrift store} buying some jeans – I got some pretty nice finds…yesssss! – and a complete stranger came up to ask me about it. She was so nice and asked about my blog after I told her I made it – well modified it from an old shirt.
Thanks for chatting with me Rachel! This shirt was kind of risky for me so to have someone go out of their way to compliment me meant a lot. I need to do that to other people more!

I absolutely love this! All of your projects look so detailed, but seem to be pretty easy to do at home. Great way of explaining! I can't wait to try this, one more thing on my list of hundreds of craft projects I want to do. I frequent your site weekly.
