I have this thing with little houses, especially around the holidays.
If you’ve seen my advent houses and my paper gingerbread/holiday houses, then these little house gift boxes are probably no surprise! 😉
They come in two sizes…The small one can be made with one sheet of 12 x 12 inch paper, and the other one needs two sheets. So easy and inexpensive!
I use solid papers that are fun to decorate…let your kids go to town with it! Or you can use a patterned paper to make them more festive.
I left the windows open so you can see the tissue paper inside, but you could easily glue some card stock over the windows. Maybe even add a little scene or a wreath!
MATERIALS
- 12 x 12 inch card stock
- Glue (I prefer hot glue)
- Tape (washi or clear)
- Ribbon and/or string
- Little House Cut Files Â
*Cut File Notes: Includes 2 .svg files for large house and 1 .svg file for the small house. You need Designer Edition of Silhouette Studio to use these files. Â
TUTORIAL
- Cut out your houses with your Silhouette Cameo.
- Using the perforated lines, fold the house in place and glue or tape it together at the tabs.
- Cover the windows if desired. Add tissue paper, etc.Â
- Tie the smaller pointed tops of the house together with a small piece of string.Â
- Thread string or ribbon through the sides by the roof and tie the box closed. Taping the top adds extra security. You can also skip the ribbon and just tape the top.Â
And they’re not just for the holidays!
I cut mine out of black card stock and added this gorgeous dark floral tissue paper from Michaels, for a beautiful gift box for a house warming gift!

I so LOVEE these! I do not have a silhouette, but I saved the files anyway figuring that I could just cut out the houses and use them as a template. Will that work? Do you have templatesof them or just the silhouette version? Thank you so much
Delia says
They are .svg files so if you can use a program that will open that type of file, you should be good to go. Most cutting machine software can use that type of file and Illustrator should support it as well. I hope that helps!

These are super cute – thanks for sharing the files. I was planning in making small paper houses as Christmas tree ornaments, but that didn’t happen. Maybe next year!
Delia says
That’s usually how I roll too! 😉 So glad you like them!

I am a fan of little houses and these ones are just perfect! Bould you by any chance have a pdf file for those of us who do not own a Silhouette and are ready to cut them out by hand? Thanks
Carolle

I am so sorry but I designed it for 12 x 12 inch paper. You bring up a good point though. I would have to redesign the file so that it could fit on 8.5 x 11 inch paper (maybe two sheets). I will file that suggestion away and try to do this when I get a chance (I wish I had time now, but I won’t for awhile). In the meantime, I have a similar house box here: https://www.deliacreates.com/gingerbread-paper-gift-boxes-free-template-cut-file/
There is a PDF version that you can print onto 12×16 inch paper (I think it comes in those dimensions or something similar) at a copy shop. Cut that out and use it as a template on 12×12 inch scrapbook paper. It’s even better for cutting it out by hand because you don’t have to worry about any interior cuts like the windows.

I am unable to find the cut files for the little houses on your website can you please send them to me or post it
Delia says
Sure! The files are hyperlinked under the materials list. If you would like them sent to you, please email me at [email protected].
Maryka says
Hi delia, I have emailed you as well, as something keeps going wrong with the free house files.
Delia says
Hi. My apologies. Google implemented a big update about a month ago that now kicks every single google doc link click my way for approval. I am trying to update all my files to be hosted here rather than through Google, but it has been quite the process. I try to approve link requests within 24 hours of getting notified.
If you want to email me instead, I can also send them to you. Sending them via attachment may take longer though, because I have to be on my computer, whereas I can approve file downloads from google from anywhere.
I am sorry for the trouble. I am working on a solution. In the meantime, I believe I did approve your file request.
Becky Peyton says
I don’t see the file where I can download, please provide a link or instructions on how to download.
Delia says
The files are hyperlinked under the materials list. Let me know if you have further questions. Enjoy!

What a cute idea! And a huge thank you for the free cut files. I can see these as housing cute gifts for a realtor friend.
Delia says
Oh yes! That would be great for that! Thanks Carol.
Sandra Moss says
Love these. What are the final dimensions on the larger one? I’m trying to design a gift box for my sister who’s a realtor to fit two tumblers as her house warming gifts.
Delia says
Good question! The larger boxes are about 3.5 inches squared on the bottom by about 3.75 inches on the sides up to where the roof begins. You can enlarge the files as well if you need them to be bigger.

Andrea Kinniard says
I have the cricut and when I upload into that software it states incompatible. It still uploaded it but all the lines are cut lines and not scored and it looks like it would just cut all the sides completely thru. Any suggestions? Thank YOU!!
Delia says
Sorry for the technical trouble. Are you able to draw a new line over the score lines or can you change the line into a score line?
Laura says
Would these work for the cricut? They would be fabulous for Christmas!
Kristina says
Are these houses for commercial and personal use?
Delia says
Good question. They are for personal use, but if a small business wants to ask permission to use them to aid them in the sale of other products, I am all for supporting other small businesses.
Francesca says
Hi I am planning g to use this for my daughter’s birthday party and also for future business. I don’t have Silhouette machine but a Cricut Maker and the svg file is incompatible. Is there a way for me to download an SVG file that would also be compatible with Cricut?
Delia says
I do have other files that are similar. This one might be useful: https://www.deliacreates.com/gingerbread-paper-gift-boxes-free-template-cut-file/
It doesn’t have the windows cut out, but you can add those on your own, or print some on. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions. Emailing me is best: [email protected]
