We used to have a Family Home Evening Board that I liked but it was so wide that it was hard to find a place to hang it. So I made a new one.
I used an old magnet board I got years ago at Roberts. Do they still sell them? I don’t live near a Roberts anymore so I don’t know. I haven’t seen them at Michael’s, and haven’t check Hobby Lobby, but Framed steel flashing would work just the same I guess. Anywho… I made a door hanging/wreath out of it then, but hadn’t used it in a couple of years so it went into my re-purpose pile until now.
Here is a quick run down of the basics of what I did.
I spray painted the frame gray. Then added the white accent with craft paint.
I made up a striped collage in Photoshop Elements 8.0, along with some colorful silhouettes. Printed it on plain white paper.
Glued the paper on top of the magnetic part {I wasn’t sure if I would like it so I didn’t mod podge it yet, but plan to now that I know I do}.
And mod podged the silhouettes to the clear glass tiles. I then hot glued strong magnets to the backs of the tiles. Much like my chore chart tiles.
This helps our assignments be a bit more accessible to our 2 year old who can’t read yet. He can easily pick out his profile and his color. Plus…I think it looks fresh, different, and new.
Now the board hangs in out kitchen above my aprons.
I made some of my silhouettes too big for the small tiles. So I scrounged up some larger tiles I had and made regular magnets for my message board. The green is a bit dark, but for an afterthought project I am pretty happy with it.
This pictures says it all!

I almost have the nickel chore chart ready to go! Fabulous. The silhouette magnets are such a great idea. When I was a kid (back when we all shared a home phone) we had a board with cloths pin clips. Each had a family member name. It was so easy to leave a message or a thought there.

This is so amazing that it should be mass produced and sold in Desseret Book! I am in love with this FHE chart–it belongs in my house!

May be a stupid question, but did you create the silhouettes or find them somewhere? Thanks 🙂
