So I finally got to making these upcycled hats…from Cheri from I am Momma Hear me Roar.
I say finally because unfinished hat tops have been floating around my craft desk for a while. At first the seams at the top were not laying flat and it was driving me nuts. Then I modified the cut to be a little less curved and it worked better. Cheri also told me to just keep making the hat, and she was right…once it is all put together it kind of works out.
Now I wanted a brim, but I thought that a brim and ear flaps might be a bit much? Maybe not, but at the time that is what I was thinking.
I made them quite long as I was messing around with it. So I scrunched up the front, attached the brim and now…
The extra material scrunches over their ears. Kind of cute….the hats and my kids. 🙂
I made Reid’s brim two toned…
Are those bribe fruit snacks for the picture? You betcha!
I didn’t anticipate my knits to be quite as stretchy. So…Reid’s hat actually fits Owen better and Owen’s hat fits…
me better.
Whoops. A good reason to make more…eventually. 🙂
If you were wondering if I have bed head under that hat…I do. 🙂
And…I told you these hats were long. This is how Owen, my five year old, decided to wear it for his self-created “ninja” costume.
He is happy to report that you can see and breath really well with the hat like this. Just in case you were wondering. 🙂

This hat is also on my list to make soon but I'm a little worried cause it looks like it can go either way. Hopefully my boys will wear them. (they are 9 and 11- kinda picky now)

I think they turned out really cute, Delia! You boys are absolutely darling. I especially like the two-colored brim. I also like that they fit a little big and they scrunch up. They are adorable. Way to go!
