One of our summer bingo chart to do list items was “sewing project with Mom.”
I wanted come up with something useful and something that would really get my boys interested.
So I made a super easy wallet pattern for kids. The pattern was just right for Owen who is seven. I tried to get Reid involved too but he’s in a really stubborn stage right now and just wanted me to make the whole thing for him.
It was neat to sit down with Owen and teach him about using a pattern, what feed dogs are (he was amazed at ‘the little claws’ grabbing the fabric), and stuff like that. I was excited to show him that yes, sewing is cool and not just for me! 🙂
He seemed to really enjoy it and was so excited to use his wallet when he was done.

Hope you’re enjoying your summer!

How cute. I'll have to do this with my son, he's 4, but if I wait till next year the project might turn out better since he likes to do things himself.

My niece is only 4, s not really old enough for this yet. She wants to learn how to sew, so we have mini-lessons when I sew… Today, we learned what the pattern pieces look like when things are to be placed on the fold, and that labeling front and back pieces is a good idea when they're not-quite-identical!
