Summer weather is finally upon us. I think we get over 80 degrees this week!
Time to start wearing shorts!
I saw Christie from A Lemon Squeezy Home convert her capris to shorts using Char’s pants hemming tutorial {from Crap I’ve Made}.
I had just bleached my pants with dishwasher detergent. What? I didn’t know you could do that. It’s probably more my cheap pair of pants I got at Walmart for a $1 {which I actually, surprisingly love} than the detergent. 🙂
So even though they were only $1 I didn’t want to get rid of them. I was going to hem them like Christie did but then, I came to my senses and realized that it just won’t work with skinny jeans. I don’t know about you all, but my knee/thigh is no where near the same size as my ankle. 🙂
So I did this instead.
Cut, rolled and sewed the sides.
And I love them! I have some more pairs I might be changing into shorts like these soon.
You don’t have to worry about the hem looking professional because it’s rolled.
And speaking of shorts. I finally, finally used Dana’s flat front shorts tutorial to make some shorts for Reid. Seriously took me forever to get around to it.
Do you ever do that with projects? You want to do it but you have too many other things on your list and you think it is just going to take too long. Then you do it and takes just over 30 minutes? This was that project for me. These are really fast to make once your pattern is made…the basic version anyway. When I was done, I was totally kicking myself for not getting to it earlier!
I want to make my next pair a bit more dressed up, oh and make the boys some swim trunks!
But I do need to take the sides of the pattern in a bit more first. Reid is slim, so when I made the waistband tighter for him it made the sides of the shorts poof out a bit more than I liked. I love that I can tailor these to fit him better!
Sewing is so empowering. Huzzah!
Here are Reid and I showing off our sewing muscles. 🙂
Hope your day is sunny!

Lovely photos as always. Stretch those sewing muscles! I think I have a pair of pants who are just begging to be turned into shorts. Also, a bit jealous of your 80 degree weather… we've already had two weeks of over 100 degree weather! (Not consecutively, thankfully!)

Those are some awesome sewing muscles, especially those of your adorable little man. Yes, I do that with projects ALL. the. time! In fact, that's why I never make stuff for myself or my family. I put it off because there's a baby shower or a birthday for which I have to make something. If there is a deadline, I get it done. Stuff for us doesn't have a deadline, so I never do it. I'

Those look fantastic! You did a great job! I've been wanting to patch up a pair of boyfriend capris that got a whole in them with some fun fabric. I seriously think about it everyday and have yet to get to it! haha!
Love the last photos! Cute!

You know your second photo… where the jeans are just cut at the bottom? That's what mine always look like! Oh man, being short and not knowing how to sew…. Anyway, cute shorts/capris!!

You are so adorable!
I just did this to a beloved pair of jeans with way-too-big holes in the knees. I couldn't decide if they looked funny now as shorts but seeing you and yours makes me feel better 🙂

Great refashion! There is bleach in dishwasher detergent (unless you buy all natural bleach-free brands). I got a bleach spot on my favorite shirt a couple years back, a super cute top from the Banana Republic Outlet. It was so disappointing. And not in a spot where I could do a clever change up to hide my blunder :).
