When we were getting ready to plant our garden earlier this year, I let Owen pick out something to grow too. This is what he chose.
Bright yellow, beautiful Teddy Bear Sunflowers. They grow about as tall as Reid and the blossoms can get as large as two of my hands put together. The perfect size for our little garden.
Those “drops of water” look like dew but they are sap {or nectar?}! Crazy. They smell like pine trees too. Such an interesting flower.
Good choice Owen. π
Β I’ve dusted our garden with mild pesticides in the past but decided not to this year. We have been lucky not to get any pests that have destroyed any plants. Just fun friends like this one that eat all the leaves and give my kids tons of entertainment.
I happen to love sunflowers too. They signal the end of summer and the scent of Fall wafting around the corner, especially when you see them growing on the roadside. We get them all over town here at the end of August. I can almost see myself slipping on a cardigan for crisp mornings, hear the crunch of leaves on the sidewalk, and see all the bright beautiful pumpkins everywhere. September and October are by far my most cherished months of the year.
We only planted two plants, but they have yielded us enough blossoms to fill this little cereal bowl for our table.Β
I gridded the bowl off with masking tape – Martha Stewart style. It would be even better if I had three of these, but it’s plenty pretty by itself.
We are finally shedding our high 90 degree temps for 80 degree temps later this week. Don’t judge, we only have a crappy swamp cooler, ceiling fans, and a nice hot south facing house.
I even turned my oven on this morning and made sugar cookies with Reid! We miss Owen, but we are also enjoying our one on one time a lot. Usually Owen is my kitchen helper. He is after all older, more coordinated, and follows directions {and bossy so that Reid doesn’t bother trying to help too much}. π Reid was super excited to step in and be my main helper today. It gave me the chance to see how much he really is growing up and how capable he is becoming. He will be three in a couple of weeks after all.
Β He was a cookie dough monster the whole time I was using the cookie cutters, nipping at my fingers saying, “I just have to touch it.” When I knew he really meant “eat it.” π Good thing I made a double batch.
I hope your day has been bright and beautiful today too.Β

Beautiful pictures! I LOVE sunflowers. We made sugar cookies the other day too! Check out my blog to see what we did with ours though. π I’ve also been enjoying one on one time with my little guy. He stills asks at least a dozen times where his sisters are though. π

So cute, all of it. I’m still not sure you your fun and entertaining friend isn’t destroying your plants. They sure have taken a toll on my garden.
But I’m still really glad your day was beautiful!
