This is my first post!
You may have seen these zipper flowers floating all around the blog-o-sphere. Here is my take on them.
I did not sew these at all. It was WAY easy! All you need:
scissors – you don’t mind slicing through zippers with
hot glue
a felt circle to attach them to
Unzip the zipper. Take one side and cut it into five equal portions. Loop them and glue them all around the felt circle so you have five petals.
Then take the other side of the zipper you haven’t used yet and wind it into a rosette right in the middle of the petals, gluing as you go. Once you get to the end of the zipper tuck it in as much as you can and secure with a dab of glue.
To add leaves: Cut a length of green zipper you like. Fold it in half and put a tiny, tiny bit of glue in the fold so it stays creased. Attach it and cinch it closed to the back of the felt part of the flower with more glue. I added a smaller leaf inside a larger one for depth. Optional: add an additional felt circle to the back of the leaves for a cleaner look.
Once you are done you can make it a pin, a hair clip, a headband, or an embellishment for a purse. Have fun!
One word of WARNING: Something that I learned when making them so large and not attaching them to a headband (they make my head hurt) is they get HEAVY. I had to attach TWO alligator clips to the white flower to get it to stay in my hair and it still felt a bit heavy. The brown one was fine though. So…when you shop for zippers, I suggest you look for more light weight ones if you want them big like mine.
I got my zippers at a garage sale so pickings were relatively slim…BUT, Deseret Industries or other thrift shops are a great place to get cheap zippers. I got a whole bag of like 15 zippers of different colors for $2.00.

This is awesome! 🙂 I love it! I'm totally going to have to pin this! I even have a ton of old zippers that I got from thrift stores that I've been wondering what to do with! Thanks!

Heya fantastic blog! Does running a blog similar to this take a large amount of work?
I’ve no expertise in programming but I had been hoping to start my own blog soon.
Anyhow, if you have any recommendations or tips for new blog owners please share.
I understand this is off topic however I just needed to ask.
Appreciate it!
